What are the common causes of Washington state car accidents?

Washington state traffic fatalities increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that trend has continued upward, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC).  The most common cause of fatal car accidents in Washington state is impaired driving, with more than half of all deadly crashes caused by drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Specifically, drivers under the influence of alcohol account for 30% of all traffic fatalities, according to the WTSC.  Other causes of traffic fatalities include speeding, aggressive or reckless driving, following too closely, texting while driving, failing to wear a seatbelt or a combination of one or more of these behaviors.
