The Hidden Dangers of Bike Paths (part 3 of 4)
As the rails to trails program increases in our country, we are seeing more and more bike paths. These provide a much safer location for biking because they are removed from traffic. However, bike paths have their own dangers. Collisions with on-coming cyclists or pedestrians on bike paths can result in serious injuries. First, control your speed on bike paths. Many bike paths have speed limits of 12-15 mph. These are probably best complied with. Some bike paths have blind corners. For that reason, it can be particularly important to ride on the right side of the bike path and in single file. Helmets should be worn while riding on bike paths.
